DIFF ‘09 Review: Brothers
Posted by faisal at 5:29 am, Tuesday, December 22nd, 2009. Comments (0).Tags: Brothers, DIFF
Brothers has a compelling narrative hook at its core. The only problem is that it plays out too much like a heavy-handed family melodrama, otherwise Brothers is a thoughtful and tense war drama with top-grade performances by all three leads.
DIFF ‘09 Review: Moon
Posted by faisal at 5:28 am, Tuesday, December 22nd, 2009. Comments (3).Tags: DIFF, Moon
Original and thought-provoking science fiction films don’t come along often, but ‘Moon’ ranks among them and proves that some of the best films come outside of Hollywood. The debut by newcomer Duncan Jones is brilliant and atmospheric, featuring a master-class performance by Sam Rockwell as an isolated man.
DIFF ‘09: City Of Life Review
Posted by faisal at 6:59 am, Monday, December 14th, 2009. Comments (1).Tags: City Of Life, DIFF Reviews
City of Life, the UAE production helmed by an Emarati filmmaker, is history in the making. Being the first UAE big-budget production, the ensemble piece exceeds expectations with strong acting and visuals and successfully captures the essence of Dubai. No one could wish for a better launching pad for the local industry.

DIFF ‘09 Review: Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel
Posted by faisal at 5:22 am, Sunday, December 13th, 2009. Comments (2).Tags: Alvin and the Chipmunks, DIFF, Reviews
The singing and dancing Chipmunks are back just in time for the holidays in ‘Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel’, a sequel that offers more of the same things that people loved about the original. The plot is threadbare and the characters stereotypical this time around, but kids are bound to love the cuteness overload and slapstick humor.
