‘Valentine’s Day’ Sequel Already Planned – ‘New Year’s Eve’

‘Valentine’s Day’, a movie with every romantic comedy star in the world hasn’t even been released yet and it looks like the producers have suddenly realized that the idea of doing holiday-themed romantic comedies is gold. And they’re already ready with another one.

Deadline Hollywood reports that a sequel is already in the works with the producers hiring screenwriter Katherine Frugate to pen another ensemble comedy, only this time it will revolve around ‘New Year’s Eve’. The movie will star some of the cast from ‘Valentine’s Day’ over the course of 24 hours before the new year begins.
Now I have no doubt Valentine’s Day will be a hit but the fact that they just realized this formula is hilarious. The British film ‘Love Actually’ already figured this out in 2005 and revolved around Christmas and had an ensemble cast. Only that film was one of the best romantic comedies every made and I highly doubt this or the next one will be so.
Still, this will be a pleasant diversion come February 14th.
Mark Millar Says ‘Wanted 2′ Script More International In Scope

Universal had a pitiful 2009 with none of their summer movies hitting the notes they were expecting. It’s time they went back to their trusted moneymakers. One of them is the surprise hit ‘Wanted’ from 2007. And writer Mark Millar says the script’s almost done.

Mark Millar tells IGN that he’s got a script almost done that will bring audiences the same action elements the original provided, but the scope will be international this time with Wesley being hunted by others.
“We’ve been going back and forth with some ideas and everything, but there’s a lot of people to please. I mean, there’s Angelina Jolie, there’s (director) Timur , and there’s Universal, you know? Everybody’s a perfectionist on it, so nobody wants to come in, cash the check, and take off. The screenplay’s almost at the stage [that] people are getting happy with it. Some people had some problems with it a few months ago and some people didn’t like it a month prior to that, the draft that was around.
I can’t remember exactly when it’s going to start shooting – I don’t know if I can even officially say – but it will be soon, and it’s almost ready, the script is almost ready.”
Did he mention Angelina Jolie? For those who’ve seen the first film, how can she be in the film? I really liked the visual style and action sequences in Wanted although the rest of the film could have been better.
Still, waiting for the sequel.
Fox Hires Writer To Reboot ‘Daredevil’

Whoever came up with the idea of casting Ben Affleck as a blind superhero should really be called up on stage and be deported from Hollywood forever. The first ‘Daredevil’ film was a collosal failure on most respects, even though I’ve heard a few good words about the director’s cut on DVD. But Fox is hurrying to give it another shot before their contract expires and the character goes back to Marvel.

Deadline Hollywood reports that a writer has been hired to write the reboot of the series. Too bad the writer in question is David Scarpa, who wrote ‘The Day The Earth Stood Still’ which was another failure from Fox. The aim here is to make it something dark and gritty like Batman but then again that was the aim the first time and look how that turned out. I really hope they can get the character right this time as he is a unique hero and this could become their very own ‘Batman’.
P.S. – Please don’t try to reboot ‘Electra’. Just, don’t.
‘Cop Out’ Red Band Trailer Considerably More Funny
Posted by faisal at 4:37 am, Sunday, February 7th, 2010. Comments (Comments).Tags: Cop Out, Red Band
So there’s an upcoming movie coming out by director Kevin Smith that is not written by him – ‘Cop Out’ starring Bruce Willis and Tracy Morgan. It’s got a great cast and everything, but too bad it hasn’t really shown us the funny in its trailers. But the new red band trailer brings out the raunchy humor of the film that it couldn’t get away with it in the normal trailers.

Two longtime NYPD partners on the trail of a stolen, rare, mint-condition baseball card find themselves up against a merciless, memorabilia-obsessed gangster. Jimmy (Bruce Willis) is the veteran detective whose missing collectible is his only hope to pay for his daughter’s upcoming wedding, and Paul (Tracy Morgan) is his “partner-against-crime” whose preoccupation with his wife’s alleged infidelity makes it hard for him to keep his eye on the ball.
Keep in mind the trailer has some foul language and even fouler jokes. But hey, they’re funny and bring back my faith in the film.

Sony Hires Screenwriter To Decode Da Vinci Dode Sequel ‘The Lost Symbol’
Posted by faisal at 4:16 am, Sunday, February 7th, 2010. Comments (Comments).Tags: Da Vinci Code, Sequels
Did anyone watch ‘Angels and Demons’ last year? ‘The Da Vinci Code’ was everywhere when it was released yet the sequel just came and went amidst the other summer blockbusters and no one talks about it. Except for Sony, of course, who is hurrying a sequel based on the latest novel ‘The Lost Symbol’ by Dan Brown.

Columbia Pictures has hired screenwriter Steven Knight (Eastern Promises) to work on a draft for the film adaptation. Neither Tom Hanks or director Ron Howard have officially confirmed to return, but considering these movies give them a very hefty paycheck, why wouldn’t they?
Critical reaction to The Lost Symbol is divided but it’s still one of the biggest bestsellers currently. Read the official synopsis of the novel after the jump.
